OSHA 30 Hour General Industry Certification
Your safety is our number one goal
OSHA statistics show that every year employees from all kinds of industries are being injured through accidents. These accidents can be prevented with little basic training in health and safety matters. Training employees in health and safety matters in the workplace may seem to be time consuming and expensive but investing in your workforce and their safety is an important outlay.
The 30-hour General Industry OSHA Outreach Training Program provides training to managers, supervisors and foreman who oversee a team. Training emphasizes hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention. The program will last at least 30 hours.
The mandatory courses for this program last 12 hours. The first hour, an introduction to OSHA, covers workers’ rights, employer responsibilities and complaint filing. It also includes helpful worker safety and health resources. The next two hours cover Managing Safety and Health. Topics include Injury and Illness Prevention Programs, job site inspections, accident prevention programs, worksite analysis and hazard prevention/control. The session will also review management commitment and employee involvement, accident investigations, safety meetings, and supervisory communication.
There will be a one-hour Walking and Working Surfaces course that includes fall protection. The following two-hour course will cover Exit Routes, Emergency Action Plans, Fire Prevention Plans, and Fire Protection.
The last mandatory hours are split between four topics. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Hazard Communications will last one hour each. Electrical and Materials Handling will last two hours each.
Elective Topics
The instructor will then present on the following elective topics for at least 10 hours. The session will include at least five of the possible topics, and the minimum topic length is 30 minutes.
The Hazardous Materials elective includes Flammable and Combustible Liquids, Spray Finishing, Compressed Gases, Dipping and Coating Operations. The other possible electives are Permit-Required Confined Spaces, Lockout / Tagout, Machine Guarding, Welding, Cutting, and Brazing, and Introduction to Industrial Hygiene. Other options include Bloodborne Pathogens, Ergonomics, Fall Protection, Safety and Health Programs, or Powered Industrial Vehicles.
The instructor will offer guidance on general industry hazards or policies during the last eight hours. They can also expand on the mandatory or elective topics. The instructor must present on each topic for at least 30 minutes.
After completion of the course, you will receive, within 4 weeks, your OSHA 30 hour general industry wallet size card. The OSHA certification is valid for life.
